Tartan Trot help this week

Hey everyone,
Tartan Trot is here. If you have some time this week to help please come by church, even if it's for just a few minutes that can make a world of difference.
Here are some specific projects we need help with.
`1. due to weather Sunday and Monday morning, we need some help for about 2 hours putting notes on people's mail boxes for the 5k race alerting them to their street being closed on Saturday morning. This goes a long way for the PR of the event and hoping people do not get too mad at us. If you can do this Monday afternoon or Tuesday sometime Phil will help you and have everything just need a few more bodies to do this.
2. Tuesday Night is Race bag packing night. we have over 1300 race bags to pack for our runners. come by church from 5-8 and help us pack, come for 30 min, 1 hr, or the whole time. The more hands on this project the better.
3. Cakes and Pies, continue to bake your cakes and pies for all the running world to enjoy. Bring them by church anytime on Thursday or Friday.

I'm sure there will be plenty more to do, if you have a few minutes this week please let us know you can help.

Youth Update for Sunday

Hey everyone,
Here's what's up for this week at St. Luke's.
1. Sunday afternoon: youth choir is meeting right after church. Confirmation 3:30-4:30, Youth Group 5:30-7:30.
     --Sunday Night: we will continue with Tartan Trot Preparations. This week we will finish up some banners, make some cakes/pies, and walk parts the course to put notes on people's mail boxes telling them about the race. Please wear shoes you can be outside it and a coat to keep you warm. Parents if you can help us for safety sake we could use a few of you.

2. Tartan Trot: Next Saturday is the Tartan Trot. Remember the money raised goes back to you.
     a. If you haven't registered and plan to run do so right now (www.tartantrot.com).
     b.If you haven't volunteered yet please contact Allison Thornton (aetrtlt@bellsouth.net) now. Even if you are running there are ways you can help.
     c. Pies and Cakes are still needed if you can bake one or two this coming week for us to give away that would be super. Even a plate full of a couple dozen cookies would be great too.
     d. If you have any time next week to help with set up and preparations please contact us. even an hour here or there can make a big difference. Many hands make light work.

3. Summer trips-please continue to tell us about summer trip plans with us. Information is on the website. Adults too, we could use some more adults on all our trips.

Reminder we don't have Youth Group on the 29th. February 5th will be the super bowl tailgate party. food will be brought by you bring your favorite tailgate food to share with the rest of us. We will start at 5:30 (like usual) and end at halftime of the game (probably around 7:15/7:30). We will have some other fun stuff going on as well for the evening.

Christmas is only 10 days away!

hey everyone,
I know many of you are in the midst of finals, or preparing for the end of semester things. We are praying for you all as you finish up you semesters. If you need help with anything please let us know. We have some pretty talented people in the congregation who may be able to help you get ready for exams.

Confirmation Information went out this week. You should have it in your mail by now. If you want to participate in Confirmation this year and did not receive information please let Phil or Liz know.

TARTAN TROT--The Tartan Trot will be here before you know it. Get those registrations in. Get your friends together to run or help on race day. Also if you are going on a trip this summer, you need to be involved as much as you can with the Tartan Trot. Here's some ways in the near future to get involved:
1. December 19th at the Live Nativity: Like last year, the Tartan Trot will have a table with hot chocolate and race forms. Pleas sign up, by telling Phil, to help at the table that evening. Shift 1: 5:00-6:00 help set up tables and haul hot water outside, serve Hot Chocolate. Shift 2: 6:00-7:00ish serve hot chocolate and help clean up.
2. Fleece sales, Sunday morning we are selling fleeces with Tartan Trot on them. If you can stand at the table, take orders, and smile big please do so. All information will be there for you.
3. If your family sponsored, thank you thank you thank you. We are getting to a time where we need to know some things from you about the race itself. Laura Singly should be contacting you soon regarding all this information.
4. Sunday Nights in January: We will be preparing for the Tartan Trot on Sunday Nights in January. We will have fun and get a lot of work don for the race.
5. There are many ways you can help get ready for the Tartan Trot. If you have ideas or an afternoon or a few hours please let us know and we probably have something you can help with.

The Tartan Trot is a great event, yes because of the funds we raise and the work we get to do because of those funds, but also for the life of the congregation. We will welcome over 1000 people to our church! This is something to celebrate even in the midst of the hard work. Thanks everyone for your gracious support.

Sunday Night Youth Group 6:30-8:00pm this week!

Here's what's up with st. luke's youth stuff this week:
1. Sunday night: Dueling organs concert 5:00-6:15ish, Youth Group 6:30-8:00pm. Dinner will be served for youth. Come on to the concert and then have some fun with us on Sunday night.

2. Church wide mission trip, January 13-15, in Charlotte, NC registrations due this Sunday, Nov 13th. Forms and information can be found here or go to http://www.slpres.org/missiontrips.asp

3. Christmas parties for youth will be held on the afternoon of December 11th. Middle Schoolers will be at one party and High School will be at a later party. We will have a white elephant gift exchange at the party.

Halloween update and homeless requiem

Hey everyone,
Heard last night was great with good discussions and some great fun! Thanks everyone for coming.

An early update for you all this week reminding you about the requiem for the homeless at St. Philip's Cathedral tomorrow night! It's a great evening of service and rememberance for the homeless who have died this past year. We are planning on meeting at St. Luke's at 5:00 and getting to the Cathedral about 5:30. A worship service will start at 7:00pm. We will return around 9:00pm. Please let me know if you can make it for some, all, or part of the evening.

Parent and Youth night this week

Hey everyone,
Great to see many of you this past week. Last Sunday the middle schoolers made cookies and painted pumpkins which were delivered to the Ronald McDonald House. They loved them. The high schoolers were at Druid Hills Night Shelter for a great evening with the men there. Wednesday brought Trunk N Treat to the parking lot and about 350 people to the church. Thank you everyone who was involved and helped with the evening. Really exciting stuff going on at St. Luke's.

This week:
Friday Night--Dunwoody 5th Quarter at DUMC. High schoolers are invited to Dunwoody United Methodist church for an event sponsored by Dunwoody High's FCA. A late night fun place to be after the football games. Bring your friends, there will be food, blowup games, and music. 9:30ish-11:30. Parents and adults if you can help that night, we need some adults around to help. If you can make it let me know or just show up. There will be about 350 kids at the event.

Sunday night--Parents and Youth Connection. Parents come for a great discussion on boundaries with teenagers lead by Rev. Shannon Dill. The discussion will be focused around the book Get Out of My Life, but First Can You Take Me and Cheryl to the Mall, by Anthony E. Wolf. I have a couple copies here at church if you would like to take a look. You do not need to have read the book for the evening. Youth we have tons of fun planned for our evening together.

Next week:
Next weekend (Nov 5-6) is a great and busy weekend for St. Luke's. Look for an email to the entire congregation that outlines the details. We will have regular youth Sunday night 5:30-7:30, but there a lot more to get involved in on Saturday and Sunday too.

Hey everyone,

Happy middle of October! hope all is well. here's what's coming up for youth in your near future:
1. this Sunday: HS are headed to Druid Hills Night Shelter to serve dinner to the men there (5:15-9:00, let phil know if you want to come so we can make sure we have rides for you). MS at church playing pantyhose baseball and making gifts for families at Ronald McDonald House (5:30-7:30).
2. Next week:
      Wed: Trunk N Treat @ church 4:45 parking lot opens, 5:00 maze and garden activities start, dinner at 6:15. If you can help we can use all the hands we can get.
      Friday: Dunwoody High 5th quarter at DUMC. after the football games till 11:30pm. parents we need some help with volunteers for this event. Its a great event with about 400 kids from the community.    Everyone is invited.
      Sunday: Parent Connect night with Shannon Dill leading a discussion around boundaries and parents. The discussion will draw from the book: "Get out of My Life, but first could you dirve me and Cheryl to the Mall?" by Anthony Wolf. I have a couple copies at church if you want to take a look. You don't need to have read the book to come. Youth will be having fun at a normal youth night after dinner too. 5:30-7:30pm.

St. Luke's High Schoolers

Hey all you St. Luke's High Schoolers,
Here's some great stuff coming up just for you:

1. Moe's 5:00-6:30ish Tuesday afternoon (tomorrow). Phil will be at Moe's. Come on by, grab a burrito or nachos or something, hang out and take a breather.

2. This Sunday (the 23rd) Druid Hills Night Shelter Dinner, meet at church at 5:15 we will be back about 9:00 or so. Parents we could use a few drivers. Everyone please let me know if you can go. I need to get a headcount by Thursday Morning.

3. Next Friday, October 28th, Dunwoody FCA is hosting a 5th quarter event at Dunwoody United Methodist Church. The event will start about 9:00 and go until 12:30. There will be fun, games, food from Shane's Rib Shack, music, and inflatables. It will be a great night hanging after the games. Parents if you can help out that night we could use a few volunteers.

4. We will have a parents night October 30, 5:30-7:30 with our one and only Shannon Dill for a discussion around the book Get Out of My Life, but First Could You Drive Me & Cheryl to the Mall, by Anthony Wolfe. I have a few copies in my office, come Wednesday, if you would like to take a look at the book before hand.

Hey all you youth families,

Hope all finds you well. Some of you are on a four day weekend this weekend. We wish you all well and pray for safe travels if you are out and about. Those of you who are here we can't wait to see you all on Sunday. Here's what's going on:

1. Sunday night 5:30-7:30, st. luke's extreme coupon. We need your Saturday/Sunday newspapers. If you have some please send them our way so that we can use them for our fun night of service and learning about hunger. Also, if a couple parents could help drive us to the grocery store and back that would be super too!

2. Continue bringing in those pictures frames. We are going to use them for a new prayer wall we are going to build together over the course of the year.

3. OCTOBER 23: High Schoolers are headed to Druid Hills Night Shelter to help serve dinner. I need to get a count of who can go. Please let me know if you and your family can go. We will be gone from 5:30 to about 9:00 or so. We will also need some help driving that night too.

Youth Update for OCT 2

Hey everyone,
we are in the swing of fall and having a great time:
1. This Sunday (the 2nd) is a normal night for us with dinner 5:30-7:30
2. Next weekend (the 9th) the middle schoolers will be on a retreat, but we will still have Sunday night 5:30-7:30.

Some needs:
1. Powdered lemonade/kool aid for drinks
2. in a couple weeks we are doing something with picture frames and hanging them on the walls in the youth room. If you have any pictures frames that can hang that you can donate that would be great. We are in need of 1 per youth. any size is 5x7 or bigger is great.
3. High Schoolers are headed to Druid Hills Night Shelter on Oct 23, would love to get a big crew to head down there with. Also, could use a parent or two to help coordinate this evening. It's super easy and probably involves a trip to costco/sams. If you can help coordinate please let me know ASAP.

Kick-off time

Hey all you youth families,
You all did an amazing job on Sunday morning with the pancakes. I've heard a ton of great complements about how smoothly everything worked. That breakfast sure was tasty. Thanks everyone for all your help.

It's time again to get Sunday Nights rolling. This Sunday parents and youth are invited come, eat, play, and learn about what's going on for the fall at St. Luke's. Please come with insurance cards for your youth and your calendars to jot down important dates coming up. We will see you all Sunday 5:30-7:30pm in the Great Hall.

FEAST: Feast starts next wednesday. Please make sure you have your registration forms in. This is how we know who to plan for with class. more information can be found in the Fall Connections

Dinners: we can't do Sunday nights without all of your support. Dinners are important times for us to grow together as a group and share a meal together. It has been great that families provide dinners through the year. Thank you for sharing with us. If or a couple of you can bring dinner for about 40 please sign up. Here are dates that we need for dinner sign ups: Sept: 25, Oct 2, 9, 16, 23 (middle school only), 30 (parent connect night), Nov 6, 20, and Dec 11. Respond to Liz or Phil to help. we can reimburse you for some costs too.

Middle School Retreat:
Middle School Retreat October 7-9 @ the Calvin Center in Hampton, GA. Leave evening on Friday and return Sunday mid-afternoon. $100 for the weekend. We could use a couple adults to go with us too. Going to be a great time! Registrations due Tuesday, September 27

Druid Hills night shelter info

Hey all you St. Luke's families,

A quick reminder about Druid hills night shelter coming up this Sunday evening.

We will meet at church at 5:30 then caravan down to the shelter. we should be home around 8:30 depending on how dinner conversations go. We should have enough rides if you do not want to go, but I would encourage you as families to experience this together.

If you can go please let myself or Allison Thornton know (aetrtlt@bellsouth.net) know. Allison is coordinating our food and would like to know numbers so we can plan accordingly.

Montreat Information

Hey everyone,

Hope you all are excited about our trip to Montreat next week! I'm super stoked for a week in the mountains. This email is a bit long but please read it carefully. I tried to get everything in one place.

1. We leave from church at 11:00 sharp on Sunday morning. plan on being to church a bit before. We will stop for lunch on the way up (fast food something). We should be in Montreat sometime around 3:00-3:30PM. Those of you who are meeting us there, keep me updated as you get closer. There should be stuff going on around or you can hang out in Black Mountain until we get there. My cell phone number is 970-215-9041 and should have reception up there. Emily can I have your cell number just in case?

The address of the house we will be at is: 343 Lookout Rd. Montreat, NC. On the corner of Florida Terrace and Lookout Road. When you get into Montreat turn right onto Lookout Rd. Stay on Lookout past the auditorium and chapel and proceed up the hill. The house is #343 on the left at the corner of Florida Terrace. Turn left on Florida and go around back and park.

2. We will return somewhere around 3:00pm on Saturday. Depends on how quickly we can clean and get packed up.

3. You may want a nice outfit for worship on the final evening. Many people will also be dressed up a little nicer.

4. Please be sure to bring snacks to share with the group. Whatever you bring is what we will have around. (FYI: I'm fond of pretzel M&M's, just saying :))

5. Bedding: There are 3 single beds and 4 double beds. Does anyone have any of these sizes they can send with us? Please bring your own pillows and towels.

6. Packing: please pack in your St. Luke's bags.

7. Running: I know some of you are in the midst of training for Cross Country. I have heard from some people of another church that they have some people in the same boat. If you want to run please bring your stuff to do so.

8. Entertainment: please bring stuff to do as a group in the evenings (i.e. catch phrase, apples to apples, friendship bracelets, cards, guitars, etc)

Hey all you youth families of St. Luke's. It's been a busy summer in and out of town for all of us. we have had a great time in Honduras, Mt. TOP, Mexico, and Massanetta so far. Montreat is next week and then we are home for a few. Please keep the final trip of the summer in your prayers as we join 1000 other high schoolers in North Carolina.

I know it seems far a way but August will be with us before we know it. Here are a few things to think about coming up:

1. Summer Sundae's. Sunday evenings in July will include ice cream and a devotion with a few songs. a laid back evening in fellowship and worship for everyone. 6:30-7:30 at church.

2. August 28th the youth are serving dinner at Druid Hill's Night Shelter. Could use someone to help coordinate this. It's really simple to do. It's a great way to be in local outreach and generally a fun time too. I'll be out of town until the 21st but, I'll help as best that I can from afar. Just let me know.

3. Fall kick-off will be here before you know it. Enjoy your summer and remember to spend quality time as a family. Re-connect with each other and students take advantage of a bit of a Sabath.

Mid-Summer St luke's update

Hey everyone,

Hello in the midst of a busy summer. We have been to Honduras and Mountain TOP and getting ready for Mexico, Massanetta, and Montreat. (It's the July of the three M's)

As many of you may be aware, this Sunday is Kelly and Mike's official last Sunday with us. If you are in town please make an effort to be here to say goodbye to some really awesome people who have served with great hearts here at St. Luke's. There will be a reception following the 11:00 service.

A few things to think about coming up:

1. Summer Sundae's. Sunday evenings in July will include ice cream and a devotion with a few songs. a laid back evening in fellowship and worship for everyone. 6:30-7:30 at church.

Tuesday at mt top: the official start of the monsoon

The monsoon season has set in here at mountain top. Heavy rains and strong gusts brought excitement to our evening including knocking the power out for a few hours. All has been restored and a welcomed coolness has settled in.

For service project, today was day one of peoples two-day projects. YRG's are painting houses, building sheds, painting interiors, building fences, and other projects. They will be finished up tomorrow.

Day camp spent the morning out in the counties doing small service projects with their "fish schools" of day campers. Some groups went to a nursing home, others cleaned public spaces, and some worked in local thrifts stores helping them sort clothing and whatnot. There were lots of other projects going on too I just can't remember them right now.

Tonight at worship we did station rotation. A meaningful day indeed. The spirit of the mountain is moving through the group. It's really great to hear all of the stories about the connections people are making.

First day of work on the mountain!

All is well on the mountain in Tennessee. So far having a great time together with 130 if our other favorite friends. It's a full camp up here this week and we are loving all the energy.

No injuries except for a few ticks to be pulled off (if you don't have a tick key o get one at REI. they are amazing!)There are some new decks, new porches, newly cleared acreage, and a whole bunch of new smiles. 45 new day campers finished their first day too!

1. For the rest of May on Sunday afternoons/evening we will be preparing for our trips this summer.

It's Holy Week and we hope you find time this week to deepen your faith and reflect upon what the resurrection means for you, your family, and the world? Please keep in mind all the Holy Week Services:

tonight, Maundy Thursday Service 7:30pm in sanctuary
tomorrow, Good Friday Noon Meditation in Chapel followed by a soup lunch in the Great Hall.
Saturday, Easter Vigil, 8pm starts in Great Hall, followed by light soup and bread after the service.
Sunday Easter Sunday 8:30 and 11:00 services in Sanctuary. You are encouraged to come to the 8:30 service if it works for your family. Both services will be the same.

There will be no Sunday School or Youth Connection this Sunday.

May looks a little different this year. We are going to celebrate our year and then do good efficient work preparing for all the trips for the summer.
May 1: End of the Year party, youth and parents together. (In Great Hall)
May 8: Mandatory Mt. TOP meeting 6:00-7:30. Parents and Youth please come for important information about our upcoming trip. (in youth area)

Hey St. Luke's youths schedule for the next few weeks.
Sunday April 17th--this sunday Chastain @ st. luke's. We will have a few youth tables in the mix. Come join us as the church celebrates the gifts of everyone. Also, bring something musical themed (get creative) to decorate our tables with. Be there by 5:30 to help decorate, show starts at 6:00.

Youth Sunday Information

Hey everyone,
Here's some information about youth Sunday, Which is THIS SUNDAY (the 27th)!
It's going to be a great Sunday and we have some great stuff planned for us. Here are a few details you probably want to know about:
1. We need a few of you (3-4) to come for the 8:30 service. Would have to be to church by 8:00 and would be reading things. Let phil know if you want to do this.
2. For the 11:00 service please be at church by 9:15am so we can get everyone all squared away. Come to the sanctuary. We will have food for you. Please be prompt.
3. Attire: Jeans or pants are fine. You will be given a t-shirt that morning to wear so we will all look similar. The t-shirt is yours to keep and wear. (Parents if you want to help supplement the cost of these that'd be great, but not necessary)

Phil will be out of town Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at a planning retreat for the middle school conference this summer. He should have internet and phone service where he is. Please call if there are any questions.

also, in the evening is the senior recognition dinner (any and all are welcome to come to that, let Phil know so we know how many to plan on. $5 per person. Dinner at 6:30. The confirmation class will be at the Druid Hills Night Shelter.

It's a busy weekend at St. Luke's and we need everyone's help.

Dunwoody ONE

Hey all you High School parents,

This Sunday is the spring Dunwoody One worship event with the Dunwoody area youth groups. Its a great evening where we put our differences aside and celebrate our oneness in Christ. We are expecting around 300 high school students to be part of the event at Calvary Church of God on Chamblee Dunwoody road. We need some help. If you can help that evening either with set up/parking/the event or the event/serving dinner/cleanup we can use you.

The event starts at 5:30ish (Doors open at 6:00) and then we will be done by 8:00.

We have partnered with Community Action Center and are asking our youth to bring cans of food as their "tickets." If your High School Student wants to attend (and I hope all of them do) please send a can along with them. T-shirts are $5.

This is an important and unique thing for this community. It's been great for churches to work together.

here's what's happening in St. Luke's Youth ministry in the next few weeks. Things are a little different than normal so read a head and if you have any questions please let Phil.

March 13: 5:30-7:30pm Normal
March 16: In addition to our normal FEAST programming we will have an SAT Prep let by Kari Young. 6:30-7:30pm. Please RSVP so we will have enough copies of materials.

March 20: High School: Dunwoody ONE community youth worship, 6:00-8:00pm at Calvary Assembly of God on Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. Come for a night of worship with all the area youth groups. Meet everyone there. Bring a canned good for the Community Action Center. Free Shane's Rib Shack for dinner. T-shirts $5. Parents we could use some help either with set up and the event or the event and clean up. Let Phil know if you can help.

Middle School @ St. Luke's for a fun night 5:30-7:30pm.

March 27: Youth Sunday, a casual Sunday lead by our youth. Youth if you want to help please let Phil know (philbrown@slpres.org). Senior Graduation dinner will be that evening, all are invited to celebrate this transition in the lives of our youth. Dinner $5.00 per person, 6:30pm RSVP to Phil Brown. SAT Prep at St. Luke's

Hey all you SAT/ACT takers,

St. Luke's is looking at offering a quick review before some of the test dates in the spring as part of it's wednesday night offerings for High School students. We have a great teacher lined up for the 8th, and the 16th from 6:30-7:30. These are meant to be basic review and will be free (dinner extra) to you all we just need to know if this is something you all would like. The 8th is a Tuesday and the 16th is a Wednesday. 6:30-7:30pm. We know its short notice, but hope it will help.

Who's excited for the late night extravaganzas this weekend. Middle Schoolers we'll see you at 5:30 tonight at Church (unless other arrangements have been made). High Schoolers we'll see you at Stone Summit with your SIGNED AND LEGIBLE WAIVERS.

Drivers are okay for Friday night but we really could use some help with drivers on Saturday night from Stone Summit to Phil's house at 8:00 then back to church after dinner. If you can help please let Phil know. (970-215-9041).

Finally, On March 6th we are not having you youth in the evening. Take that night and re-connect as a family. Eat dinner together, spend the afternoon together.

Middle Schoolers and Parents -

As part of our Sunday School lesson this Sunday (February 13th) we will be visiting Dunwoody Baptist Church. We'll be attending their 11:00 Contemporary Worship. We plan on leaving St. Luke's at 10:30 a.m. and probably return around 12:30 p.m. We hope you can join us.

This visit is part of several lessons we've been doing on what is means to be Presbyterian. By exploring other faith traditions, we will be able to note the differences - but at the same time appreciate those differences as part of our family of Faith.

Confirmation students are highly encouraged to attend!

Hey all you awesome youth families. Tartan Trot is here! I was putting race labels on all the bibs last night and saw many of your names. So exciting!

We still need some help packing race bags. If you have any time today to pack come on by church and we will get you all set up. Even 20 min would help a ton.

Also, if you can help clean up tonight from the dinner and tomorrow after the race that would be a big help too. Te more the merrier.

Volunteers, Allison Thorton will be contacting you with details. If you have not been contacted with volunteer details by noon today and you think you should have been, please email me (philbrown@slpres.org). As you can imagine, coordinating this many volunteers can be a challenge and any omission is not on purpose. Thank you for you time and commitment.

Tartan Trot--Ways you can help

Hey everyone,

Tartan Trot is just around the corner and we have runners signing up from all over. As of last night we were around the 800 mark for runners! this is great, but it also means we have a lot to do to get ready.

Here's what we need:

1. Next week come by church Monday, Wednesday (FEAST day), Thursday, or Friday in the afternoons before 6:00 and we will have something for you to help with, probably stuffing race bags, hanging banners, sorting t-shirts, getting tables out.

2. Someone to take some fliers around to the neighborhoods informing them about the race. I can coordinate with you. will take about an hour or so. This needs to happen earlier in the week.

3. If you want to volunteer for race day please let Allison Thorton know at: aetrtlt@bellsouth.net

4. Drop off your cakes and pies next week in the kitchen, if they need to be in the fridge put them in the walk in. make sure they have your name and tartan trot on them somewhere. We can still use more if you are so inclined.

5. Remember the Mandatory Volunteer Meeting will be after the Spaghetti dinner on Friday at 7:00pm. Dinner starts at 5:30.

6. Any old towels that you may have would be handy for the first aide people. put your name on them with masking tape and we will be sure to wash them and get them back to you.

We are super excited about this year's race and you should be too! We need a lot of help. This race does so much for the youth of this church and for our partners around the world.

Hey everyone,

Hope you had a great Christmas and are in the midst of a happy new year.

As you get settled in to the new year and get back into the swing of things here are a few things for ya:

1. This Sunday the 9th, is our kick-off Parents and Youth come on we'll gather at 5:30, eat and then split parents and youth for a parent connect evening. We will be talking about the Tartan Trot too and how you can get involved. (If you can help with dinner please let me know)

2. If we haven't heard from you about summer trips please let us know soon.

3. Speaking of Tartan Trot: It's time to kick it into high gear. Here's what we need right now:

a. Register yourself for the race, get everyone you know to register, register early and often. Register Register Register.

b. If you have some time to drop off posters around the community please let phil know and he will give you a stack to take around.

c. Sunday mornings please come and stand at the Tartan Trot table. Sell Hoodies and encourage our members to sign up for the race.

d. Saturday mornings if you can take a couple hours out and head to other races and hand out registration forms that would great too. There are races every saturday from here until our race. Contact Marty Whitcomb if you can do this. They are close by and you can see some of the other races.

e. If you want to volunteer please contact Allison Thorton, Phil Brown, or Marty Whitcomb. Allison is helping coordinate volunteers.

Hope you have are having a great advent season and getting ready for Christmas. May your family times be special and filled with love. A few things for you this week:
1. Babysitting is off this week. Both Kelly and myself are out of town and just too much this week with Fulton county school going till the 22. We will give it a shot next year. If you want to help coordinate it next year let me know and we can start working on it in August. Sorry to disappoint any of you.

We will also have a Tartan Trot table out in the parking lot with coffee and hot coco going. This is a great opportunity for you to help the Tartan Trot. Help serve coffee and hand out race registration forms. Wear your hoodies. if you don't have one we can get you one to wear for the night.

3. Youth Babysitting:

On your calendars you might notice that on the 23rd the youth are scheduled for babysitting with gives parents a chance for last minute shopping/wrapping. Since that has been scheduled, Kelly and Phil will both be out of town that day. Are there any parents who would like to head that up? Its a great fundraiser and easy for our youth to participate in. Proceeds go to the Tartan Trot. If you can help with this let Phil know ASAP so Carol Perry can let all the preschool parents know. Looking for a 3 hour block or so during the day.

December Schedule at St. Luke's

Merry Advent to you all,
December is a bit different because of all the awesome family events at St. Luke's. Here's what's up if you are a teenager:
December 5: Happy birthday Jesus help during Sunday school hour. come to the great hall and stationing the Tartan Trot table in the lobby.
Toys for Tots in the evening. We will help sort the toys and get them into the right place. When we are done we'll head to Village Burger for dinner, bring some money. Parents, we may need a couple to
help drive if you can. Meet at church at 5:00. We will be back to church around 7:00pm.

December 8: Stop Hunger Now, the whole church will be packing 10,000 meals together. It s a great evening Dinner 6:00-6:30, project from 6:30-7:30. all ages can participate in this event. Register at the front desk for dinner.

December 12: Sunday school in the morning. Youth Christmas Parties: Middle School party at Katie Ryan's house (Mark Ryan and Kay Loerch are her parents) 5:30-7:00. High School party is at the home of Clarice Reid (Mary and Art are her parents) 7:00-8:30. We will have a white elephant gift exchange at each ($5 max), some holiday games, and some snacks and stuff. December 16: Live nativity. We need your help if you can come play a part we would love to have you. Youth we will have a Tartan Trot table there with coffee and hot coco. We need your help at the table.

Hey everone, a lot going on in the next few weeks.

1. The High School lockin has been moved to a late night thing. We will still start at 8:00pm and then end at 1:30am. We will take everyone home around then. bring a friend and $10 for pizza and supplies. Parents we could use all the help we can get, even for an hour or two would be awesome.

2. Reminder about summer trips, December 1st is the deadline for letting us know what your are interested in going on. If you want to go to HONDURAS we need to know ASAP. Flights are filling up already.

3. WOW this Sunday. Come on Sunday morning during the Sunday School hour so you can help.

4. Want to wear your Tartan Trot sweatshirt to church? come and man the table in the lobby from 9:00-9:30 and from 10:30-11:00. We need people every Sunday. It's simple, take sweat shirt and fleece orders and hand out race registration forms. This is how you can help the Tartan Trot be successful. If you plan on going on a trip next year you should take at least one Sunday.

A slight change of plans for the High School lock in this weekend. We have had to push the evening back a few hours. We will still start at 8:00pm but will end around 1:30 and then we will take everyone home. Youth should be home around 2:00. It's going to be a great evening. High School Lock-in Help needed

hey all you High School Parents,

Reminder that this Saturday is the High School Lock-in/overnight for your high school students. We need your help! Your high schoolers are super excited about this evening but we can't do it unless we get enough adults to stick around for the night. Kelly has to be out of town this weekend so that just leaves me and one advisor that has committed for a partail chunk of the evening. This is not enough. We need at least 4 adults around at all times. If you can make it work this weekend I would love the help.

here are some ways you could help:
Stay the night, bring a cot, and take a sleeping shift and an awake shift. or
sign up for a shift 7:30-10:00, 10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00, etc...
Also, if a few of you would be willing to coordinate breakfast that would be super too.

Sunday night: 5:30-7:30 dinner and fun

Here's what's going on in the next couple weeks for St. Luke's Youth
1. Sunday night 5:30-7:30, normal Sunday night with some special guests. Bring a friend.
2. Next weekend is the High School overnight at church, starts at 8:00PM Saturday pick up 7:00am on Sunday ($10/person to cover snacks and activities.)
Parents we need some help throughout the night chaperoning. If you can take a shift that would be great: 8:00-10:00, 10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00, and someone to bring/cook breakfast in the morning. I think we can handle the 2:00-5:00 stuff.
High Schoolers still need some help planning this, what things do you want to do?

Hope you have a great week. Thanks for all of you who helped with all the great service projects this last month. We had a great time at the Requiem for the Homeless, and a Saturday morning at Interfaith Outreach Home.

SATURDAY Service day, Sunday night late start

1. On your handy dandy calendars it says we are going to have a service day this Saturday. It's TRUE. We are headed to IOH (Interfaith Outreach Home, 5200 A Buford Hwy; Doraville, GA 30340) and help them get some things cleaned up and play with the kids there. We'll have pizza there too.
When: meet at church at 10:30AM, parents if you can drive that'd be super we will return around 1:30.

2. Also, on the 21st of November we are looking to have a High School Overnight/Lock-in thing. Any of you High School youth want to help plan it? (We had a retreat scheduled that weekend but think this might be easier for you all with your busy schedules).

3. Finally, Sunday night is a late start because of a scheduled concert at church. The concert has been canceled but we are sticking with our published schedule. Youth Choir 5:30, Youth Connection starts at 6:30PM ends at 8:00PM. We will be playing lots of games Sunday night. No dinner either. Just a fun filled evening together.

Requiem Report

Monday night was a powerful night for Atlanta and we were part of it. 8 faithful St. Luke's members partnered with St. Philip's Cathedral in buckhead to help serve dinner to around 500 homeless from the city. Then we all worshiped and celebrated communion together. During the service the names of those who died on the streets last year were read and presented on crosses then placed in the chancel. Really a powerful evening. Thanks everyone who traveled with us. Sara, Clair, and Ross you are awesome!

St. Luke's Youth Update

We have a great few weeks coming up at St. Luke's! Here's what's going on:
1. Prayer buddies: continue to pray for your prayer buddies. If you don't have one, you are being paired up and will know who you are praying for soon.
2. Thanks for everyone who came to Trunk n Treat on a stormy evening. It was a great success and a lot of fun.
3. NO YOUTH CONNECTION THIS SUNDAY evening, have a safe and fun Halloween.
4. Homeless Requiem at St. Philips Cathedral is MONDAY night. Come on by anytime after 3. If you want to help serve dinner to the guests for the evening come at 5:00 or after. The worship service remembering the homeless who have died starts at 7:00pm. It s a great evening. Let phil know if you are coming so that we can organize rides. We'll be back around 9:00-9:30PM.
5. Saturday November 6 is a service day for us. Meet at church at 10:30AM. We will be helping our partner Interfaith Outreach Home (IOH) during the day. We'll have pizza for lunch and be back to church about 1:30 or so. Parent's if you can drive let Phil know. Also, IOH needs any supplies of the art/school variety. If you have some old stuff in good condition lying around and can bring it with you that would be great. (The rake and run has been canceled for now)
6. Sunday November 7 we will start late and go from 6:30-8:00, no dinner. Come for some great games and a whole lot of fun that night.

If you have a mask please bring it (nothing too bloody or scary). The youth (and really whoever) will be manning a new maze in the scout hut. please be here by 4:30 if you want to help. The maze will close about 5:45. Also we need on special volunteer to sit at a table the whole time. if that is you let me know that too.

Trunk n Treat, Homeless Requiem, Commitment info

A few things going on at St. Luke's in the next few weeks:
1. Sunday Night: Some high schoolers are headed to Druid Hills Night Shelter to serve dinner. There are still a few spots open if you would like to go. Let ShannonDill@slpres.org know. She is coordinating the dinner. The rest of us will be at church for a late start 6:30-8:00PM NO DINNER but plenty of fun and some great time connecting.
2. Sunday October 31 is commitment Sunday. Everyone will be handing in their pledge cards in worship that day. Children, youth, and adults have their own cards to fill out. The Youth ones are attached and they have been handed out during youth group and Sunday School too. Please read it carefully and prayerfully consider how you might commit to the ministry of St. Luke's.
3. Monday November 1 we will head to the St. Philip's Cathedral for the Requiem for the Homeless. About 500 homeless come for dinner and worship remembering all those who have died on the streets in the last year. We will help serve dinner, clean up, and attend the service. Its a powerful evening. Everyone is invited. The earliest shift starts at 5:00PM, but we'll take ya whenever you can get there. Sign up in the lobby, or email Phil at philbrown@slpres.org. Leave church about 4:30 in the evening and return around 10:00 if you want to carpool.

Sunday Night: One Event and MS at church

1. North Spring's and Dunwoody's Homecoming are this weekend. Please pray for everyone involved at those events.

St. Luke's High School Parents

Hey all you high school parents,

In the next few weeks there are a few special things happening just for high school students. Wanted to keep you all updated as best that I can and we need some help on a few things too.

1. On the 17th, all the churches of Dunwoody are coming together for a night of worship for High School students to celebrate being One in Christ. We are expecting 400-500 students to come for this great night. We need your help. If you can give some time to help us set-up, manage a booth, help serve dinner (Shane's Rib Shack is donating the dinner!), or help clean up, it would be great! Let me know if you have a few hours. Volunteers would need to be to the North Atlanta Church of Christ about 4:00PM on Sunday (or sometime that evening). Also, St. Luke's is donating some individual bags of chips. If you are able to drop a box of them off in my office this week that would be great too. It's an awesome night and going to be a ton of fun. www.one.gutensite.com for more info.

2. On the Thursday 21st, the LeFont Theater will be showing a documentary called Race to Nowhere about how hard we push our kids to be the greatest. If you want to go you can order tickets at http://www.racetonowhere.com/. The director will be there for a Question and Answer session too. Unfortunately, I will not be able to go, but would love to hear about it. There are two of you already on board, that I know of.

3. On the 24th, the High School Students are headed to Druid Hills Night Shelter to serve dinner. This is a fantastic opportunity to serve. We need a few more parents to help us get there and to help coordinate the meal. We could also use a few more youth to go to. It's a great way to spend an evening together in service. We could handle about 10 more people. Please let me know if you are interested or can help in anyway ASAP.

Summer Recap

Summer is so much fun at St. Luke’s! You may have noticed we were not around much. We were off on our adventures through the world.

It started with Mt. TOP in central Tennessee where we helped the people of Grundy County with home repair, yard work, and gave the kids of the county a day camp for the week. We joined about 130 other people from around the country. After Mt. TOP we headed to Mexico for two weeks where St. Luke’s built three houses for families who lived in shacks. After Mexico we headed to the mountains of Virginia for a middle school conference at Massanetta Springs Conference Center. This was a great three days of fun, study, and service with about 200 other people from around the south east. After Massanetta Springs it was time for 5000 high school students to descend upon Purdue University for the Presbyterian Youth Triennium. Four St. Luke’s youth ventured into this Presbyterian celebration. They had a wonderful time and can’t wait to bring even more people in the next three years. Our own Meredith Loftis led a small group for the conference too.

Whew, who’s tired? We are, but it is a great tired. We had a blast. We could not have done it all without the great support from our adult advisors and drivers, St. Luke’s prayers and support, and funding from the Tartan Trot. Across all the trips, 51 youth and young adults traveled with ten adults around North America. Relationships with Christ and each other were made, deepened, and are now growing into lives of faith. This place is AWESOME! This week we are learning the story of Esther. If you haven't read it lately, it's a story filled with intrigue, plot twists, character transition, heroic action, and clearly the work of God. The them: "For Such A Time As This" stems from the verses in chapter 4. God has put us here for this time to take action to make the world a better place.

We are having a great time. Everyone is safe and meeting lots of new friends from around the world. We'll see y'all tomorrow night. Late. Triennium really is a special place. We can't wait to tell you all about it!

The Presbyterian youth triennium starts today. Our youth loaded a bus early this morning headed for purdue university. Where over 5000 high school students from around the world will gather to experience God in new and exciting ways. We'll keep you updated as we go along.

we're a little over half way through our time in Virginia and everyone is having a great time! The sun is out, things are heating up, and smiles are gleaming.

Last night we packed food for an organization called "STOP Hunger Now!" In a little over 35 minutes we packed enough food for 66,000 meals. 11,000 bags of rice, protein, vitamins, and vegetables were packed, weighed, sealed, and packed to ship.

We have and great worship, encounter groups (small groups), fun outside, and back home devotions.

This afternoon we are getting geared up for some crazy "Hair Don'ts" and a giant slip n' slide.

we are having a great time on our first two days at the Massanetta Spring's middle school conference in Virginia. The drive was easy and uneventful (the kind we like). our 11 girls are always excited and have jumped in with both feet. Tonight we packed 11,000 meals. (pictures to come). This is an amazing feat!

More thanks to Mary Guerrant and Kay Leorch. They have done a fantastic job. They have already gone well above and beyond the call of duty. We are blessed to have them along for the ride.

I'll try to get some pictures up soon. we don't have great internet access here, so it might not bee soon.

una casa mas!!

Today was a day of great celebration. One more family in piedras negras has a house to sleep in tonight. They will not have to worry about the rain showers anymore, the freezing cold, or the theft of stuff. They have a durable and safe house in wich to live.

It doesn't seem that long ago that we were staring at a concrete pad with the outline of some walls on it. Now it is a house that quickly is becoming a home. During the dedication, the father, Jaime, read a note saying thank you to us all for our smiles, tirless work and love we showed him. He also added that if we are ever back in Piedras his new house is open to us.

More than just a house was built this week. Firendships were made, despite the languages, cultures, and economic differences between us. Deep connections happen when we help each other with simple things like putting a roof over our heads. As the rain poured down today (see picture), it was a not-so-subtle reinforcement of just how important this house is to this family. They now really do have a dry place to be.

Also, it was a great week to see some of St. Luke's own working in their elements. Alex Whictomb (daughter of Marty and Brad spent summers coming with St. Luke's to build and this week she told us how to build. She did a fantastic job! Everyone should be proud of her. Jon Martin, our other St. Luke's grown is the construction director for CPC. He also did a great job. It is really awesome to hear their stories of growing up doing mission work and how much it changed their lives. Watching them work reminds me of just how important the work the church does to help others is. This is why tartan trot is so crucial to supporting the mission goals of St. Luke's.

St. Luke's should be proud of all their youth. They put in a great week of work not ever complaining and always eager to serve. God was with us.

Tomorrow we will travel back to GA and try to readjust our lives, and will hold CPC and the family we worked with in our hearts forever.

"The roof, the roof, the roof is on...

...the house!"

This morning's adventure was to put the 240 pound roof panels on the house...by hand... in the sun... up cinder block steps...down the width of the house. And we did it. it took all of us, but the roof came into place with precision and no injuries. The roof was secured. The holes filled in with block pieces and concrete.

The mother/wife of the family said, with tears down her face, "Now I don't have to worry about my family being cold, or about the rain getting in our house." It's amazing how much a simple roof can mean to a family.

During our daily siesta, a deluge hit the city. The sky opened up and let the water flow. We were a little late getting back to the house. By the grace of God, the storms continued to go around us and we were able to SBC (see other post) the entire outside of the house. Tomorrow we have a little touch up and clean up around the house. We will dedicate the house as well.

A great week so far and we are looking to end strong.

"put your outer course on the seat then tie it to said seat so that your inner course will not touch the outer course. then you need to place the connecting rods together in your u-blocks, that you have set accordingly to your block line. be sure to pour the E-Wall first. into your u-blocks.

Safety notes: 1. block caps go on connecting block stacks to tie the two together. 2. buckets of mescla are really heavy, be sure to lift them high above your heads. 3. stay on the scaffolding. 4. Drink your quick fix!

alright everyone got it? understand completely? Let's start putting the most important part of the house together. Ready set go."

Today was the day we poured a concrete beam around the entire house. This beam ties the whole house together and gives it the most structural integrity. its a long morning with lots of concrete buckets being poured.

This afternoon, we went to the market, where all our fine Mexican goods (including one large purple sombrero) were purchased. The ice cream was tasty too!

tomorrow we put the roof on the house and the last full day of construction.

Please keep the town of Piedras in your prayers. While the water is flowing again, they are mourning the loss of their mayor. He, along with some staff, were flying above the rio grande river surveying the flooding and the plane crashed killing all aboard. The mayor was a friend to CPC. Please keep especially the staff at CPC in your prayers.

We are all safe, have plenty of water, and all are healthy. We are thankful for it all.

Ah another day in paradise. Seriously, a cool 90-95 degree partly cloudy day in Piedras Negras.

It's a great week to be here, as are all of them, right? Today we continued to spread the SBC on our final courses of full blocks all the way around the house. Hmmm, the blocks seem heavier today.

While the blocks were setting and SBC was being frosted onto the walls, windows and doors were set into place. Each member of the building family helped secure the windows and doors, a nice touch.

It's really been a great two days of building. Lots of learning about the process from everyone. the "veterans" are great teachers of us all and then empowered us as we moved along. Everyone is working hard and continually asking how they can help! Pray for the energy to continue to flow.

Aside from the house we are building, Piedras Negras, because of some localized flooding has lost some of its water sources. The community will be fine, but today was a challenging day for some as they figured out how to get safe water to their homes. We are fine at the hotel and have plenty of water on the job site, but please pray for the people in community.

so, it rained today. yes it rained. but it was just enough to keep us cool and enough cloud cover to keep the scorching sun off our backs. After slinging a few blocks in the block line. We made it to the 8th course of blocks on the house and but SBC (surface bonding cement) all the way up.

everyone is doing a great job and the group is working very well together. Everyone is learning from everyone else and the job is getting done. Perhaps more awesome is working side by side with the family of 5 who will live in the house we are building.

all is well and keep the prayers coming.

We made it! we have all arrived safely and are ready for a great week in Piedras Negras. A little more humid today than normal, but still the same old good heat. Tonight we have orientations and get ready for our week. We are looking forward to some great food this evening. Piedras is as welcoming as ever. All the usual smiles and greeting hugs.

Mt. Top 2010

we had a great week at Mountain TOP, in the Cumberland mountains of Tennessee. Traveling outside of Monteagle in Grundy county, we sent 22 people to meet 130 others from all over the country for a week of service camp. Our youth and adults helped with day camp or did service projects around the county. We explored what it meant to have, bring, share, and experience God's hope in all of it.

One Worship, Middle School night, and Druid Hills night shelter

Hey everyone,
wanted to give you a heads up on what's going on this weekend. It's a little different than usual so here are the details:
1.If you are in high school:
Head to North Atlanta Church of Christ for an evening of great worship with all the youth groups from Dunwoody. It's going to be a blast and free Shane's Rib shack coming your way for dinner. T-shirts are $5 each. meet at North Atlanta Church of Christ at 5:30, starts at 6:00PM. We will be done by 8:00 with dinner and fun.
2.If you are in middle school:
come on to church like normal 5:30-7:30 only, it won't really be like normal because Shannon and Jason and leading youth group for Middle School only! so exciting!
3. If you are in Confirmation:
you will be serving dinner at the Druid Hills night shelter to the men down there! you all have your instructions there. The rest of us will be praying for you all as you serve.

St. Luke's 4th annual Mission Miles run took place Saturday January 30 at 8:00AM. The streets of Dunwoody were closed down as 500 people ran through their 5k and 10k courses that started on Mt. Vernon Drive. It was a fantastic day for the community and is quickly becoming a premier event for the Dunwoody community. We are a great church in a great community. Thank you everyone who volunteered and ran. It was amazing to see the entire church come together for a great event to support a great cause. Over a hundred people from the church volunteered their time to help put this together. Special thanks are needed for Marty Whitcomb, our race director. She had the vision 4 years ago and it is growing and growing to amazing levels. Julie Pile, Mary Reid, and Mary Martin also deserve special thanks as they put in countless hours in preparation for the Tartan Trot.

Some preliminary numbers:
about 640 registered runner (550 actual runners)
about 75 peachtree qualifiers
around $41,500 gross (this is amazing)
about 80 cakes and pies given away
over 100 awesome volunteers.

All the proceeds will go toward faithful youth mission and outreach in the Atlanta community and around the world.

Nice work today everyone who came and helped us raise money for youth mission work. We raised almost $300. That's enough for 12 kids to go to day camp at Mountain TOP in Tennesee. Maybe that will help the twelve kids who are in our two vans this summer?

Thank you everyone who came to help. It was a great day and we all had a great time. Parents of the young ones we hope you got a lot done. Thanks for sharing your kids with our kids and supporting the youth mission work.

Come on! Youth fundraiser. Tomorrow morning we are babysitting for some parents who need some time to get ready for Christmas. Come help 10:00-2:00. We'll have lunch for you, you just need to show and help. If you plan on going on a trip you should be there if you can. see you in the AM.

Had a great afternoon running through a corn maze in North, GA. Uncle Shuck's hosted us. It was a fantastic day. The sun was out and we all had a great time. Thanks to all our drivers and Kay and Mark for bringing yummy BBQ!

People are going to be so warm because of the service work we did Sunday night. St. Luke's youth made 10 blankets last night and prayed for those who are cold and don't have a way to keep warm. Pictures to come soon.

Thanks everyone for coming out last Sunday night. We had a blast playing together. Awesome 9-square, flying spoons, and a great Star Wars Dodgeball were played. Not to mention there were a ton of you! We weren't sure Jersey Mike's could handle all us, but the loaves and fishes prevailed. There was enough for all. Thanks Jill and Cathy for a great dinner. See you all next week as we make fun and great spiritual connections. Y'all are awesome. Hope your week is filled with God's grace and peace.

They came, they played, they ate, and they filled out paperwork...Yes, it was a grand evening at St. Luke's. Thanks to all those who came out for the kick-off evening. We had a great evening in fellowship. Special thanks to the Spears and the Bryants. They fed the 100 or so of the hungry people. It was the perfect finish for a great 40th anniversary day!

DISCOVER ATLANTA DAY!

Join us on Saturday, August 1 for the ULTIMATE ATLANTA stay-cation... you know, a vacation, but you don't go anywhere. So if you are in town, you need to come hang out with your favorite youth advisors as we explore our fair city. We're meeting at the church at 12:00 p.m. Then we'll head to the MARTA station and head to DOWNTOWN ATLANTA...from there, we'll dine at the CNN Center, hang out in CENTENTIAL PARK, think about some Jesus things (well it is Youth Group after all) and then head to TURNER FIELD to watch the BRAVES play the DODGERS. Cheap seats, good hot dogs, fun in the sun... it will be a good day, even better if you join us.

20 people from St. Luke's are headed to Mountain TOP in Tennessee. We leave Sunday morning bright and early (5:30 AM! yikes). Please pray for our group as we serve one of the poorest areas of our country only three hours away.

Meet at church at 10:00 for a day tubing down the Chattahoochee. You will need a waiver signed by your parent. Click here for the waiver: http://www.uptheriveroutfitters.com/services.html. Cost $10.00 for floating ($10 checks payable to St. Luke’s) and cash for lunch on the way home ($10 max). Bring swimsuit, sunscreen, towel, change of clothes, sunglasses, and whatever else you need for a day on the river. Please keep in mind that bathing suits should be modest.
Parents you are more than welcome to come along and drive. We will pay your way if you want to drive. Please let Phil know if you would like to drive and hang out with us on the river! 970-215-9041.

St. Luke's Presbyterian Church partnered with St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (Tucker) last week as we worked in Honduras in the village of Ocotal #2, in the department of Olancho. With the village residents, the team poured concrete floors, led a vacation Bible school, and celebrated the love and fellowship of God. While in Honduras we lived at El Rancho Pariso, a ranch operated by Honduras Outreach Inc. (hoi.org). The local Hondurans who oversee the day to day operations of the ranch were tremendous. They were hospitable, friendly, and helped us as we figured out the work we needed to do. Our hosts were truly examples for us that our whole lives are to be lived as servants of Christ. Their love and joy for life and Christ was certainly a sermon for us all. Something divine happens when we travel and serve as brothers and sisters in Christ. Although it is hard to name, at different moments it was felt by each one of us. David King reflected that he loved "connecting in this beautiful valley with our Christian neighbors and not only hearing the words 'Dios' and 'Jesus Cristo' but also deeply feeling them." Feeling Christ in our lives is something we all strive for and these trips are one of those ways we do that better. The youth that traveled with us were fantastic - you all have every reason to be proud of them. They worked hard, loved playing with the kids, and really felt a connectedness to our new brothers and sisters in Christ. Trips like this are possible because of the great support St. Luke's gives through prayer, staff, and Mission Miles fund raising. Thank you all of you who support these transforming trips. Honduras was an amazing trip and we are incredibly grateful to have been a part of it. Lives were changed and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit continues to be celebrated. Honduras was a fantastic trip. St. Luke's teamed up with St. Andrews Presbyterian church for a week in Honduras, helping people with concrete floors, mudding houses, and teaching a vacation Bible school. Youth Sunday

Youth Sunday was a huge success! The youth lead a worship service that was fantastic. Everything was done with excellence and reverence. The youth choir sounded amazing even though there were only 7. The prayers were thoughtful and brought us closer to God. The sermon was though provoking and challenged us to rethink our busy schedules. Each youth was articulate and poised as they led us in worship. St. Luke's should be very proud of each youth who helped make this service so good.

Youth Sunday is upon us. THIS Sunday is youth sunday. If you are participating in the service please be in the sanctuary at 9:15AM to practice so that we can all be on the same page. See you Sunday. Dress is a little more casual than usual. Though please don't wear shorts. Enjoy the Beautiful weekend.
